DHP Family Presents:

Sherwood At The Controls feat Asian Dub Foundation (Live)

Live at The Garage, Highbury

Adrian Sherwood brings Edition Number 5 of Sherwood at The Controls to The Garage, Highbury with special guests Asian Dub Foundation! The show will also feature Steve Davis & Kavus Torabi and The NJE.

Kavus Torabi is an experimental/ psychedelic musician with a long history in the field. He fronts his own band, Knifeworld and plays in Gong, Guapo and was previously a member of the clad Cardiacs.
He runs the boutique record label, Believers Roast, has collaborated with a wide range of left-field artists and co-presents The Interesting Alternative Show with Steve Davis, a show championing new, experimental, avant-garde, far out, underground, electronic, pop, folk, psych, rock and classical music.

Steve Davis was the most successful professional Snooker Player of the 1980’s, winning a total of 28 major ranking events including 6 World Championships. In recent years his involvement in snooker has been limited mainly to TV punditry, which has given him far more time to indulge in his musical hobby, namely collecting left field music from around the globe and presenting a weekly Radio show on PhoenixFM with Kavus Torabi. His favourite band is Magma and it was well documented that at the end of the 80’s he brought them to London for a series of shows.

Like most band names, it came about by accident – trying to explain the sound of three musicians playing horn-led instrumentals from the rock/pop side of the tracks, the closest description was a ‘near-jazz experience’. Swiftly abbreviated to The NJE, this ‘Near Jazz Experience’ was formed by multi-instrumentalist Terry Edwards, bassist Mark Bedford and drummer Simon Charterton in the spring of 2010.

Look no further than the Hendrix cover, Voodoo Child for a way into their world. The familiar reinvented and taken to a parallel world. Born out of a love of improvised music which was accessible (funky beats and grooves) yet experimental enough to break the mould of middle-of-the-road jamming, the trio built up a following at a residency in the heart of London’s East End, headlining the monthly Sartorial Records music nights.

Tickets are on sale immediately from TicketWeb and other ticketing outlets.
