Tickets are now available for Marwan Moussa and Afroto at The Garage.
Marwan Moussa is an Egyptian Trap artist born in Ismailia and lives in Cairo. He’s known for his famous hit Sheraton; his start in the music is with music production that he learnt from Italy. But then his friend Abyusif convinced him to start rapping on his beats. Marwan first album was Bel Monasba and his last one is Florida Dark Mode in 2022.
While recent Afroto releases such as ‘Mussolini’ and ‘Bakar’ have fallen under the en vogue banner of trap-inspired bangers, his latest release sees him slow down the pace considerably. Produced by rapper, Marwan Moussa, the track strips things down and draws on more shaabi sounds. The lyrics follow a common narrative that’s developing on the the rap scene in Egypt. Afroto talks of an isolation and loneliness he finds himself in as he tries to navigate life in and out of the music scene. He delivers his lines with soul and emotion, showcasing a different side to his vocal range than we’ve seen before. Directed by Abdelrahman Magdy, the video isn’t the most creative of visualisations – that is, at first. But as Afroto performs to camera in various deserted spots, the highlight of which sees him on a rooftop overlooking the skyline of Alexandria’s residential El Soyof area, that feeling of isolation gets deeper and deeper and the simple video seems more and more fitting with every passing lyric.
