REFORMED IN 2016, ESPRIT D’AIR IS A JAPANESE ELECTRONIC ROCK/METAL SOLO PROJECT LED BY VOCALIST, MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST, AND PRODUCER, KAI.
As featured on Billboard, HuffPost, Loudwire, BBC Radio, Kerrang! & Louder, their sound is unique and fresh, bringing together hard-hitting aggression with melodic vocals and electronic synthesizers.
In 2018, Esprit D’Air won Best Metal Album at The Independent Music Awards taking place at the prestigious Lincoln Center of Performing Arts in New York City, for the release of their debut album, Constellations, judged by an esteemed panel featuring Slayer, Amy Lee (Evanescence), Sepultura & more.
2019 saw nomination for Best Musical Act by NEO Magazine (sponsored by SEGA). They finished in the top five alongside the likes of Crossfaith, BAND-MAID, The GazettE and Mutant Monster.
In 2021, Esprit D’Air released their 10th Anniversary Live album and committed to releasing a new song every six weeks via their Patreon page.
Oceans album by Esprit D’Air
They released their 2nd album Oceans in 2022, which entered six Official UK Charts, including #8 in the Top 40 Rock & Metal Albums, and #5 in Top 20 Independent Albums Breakers. The new album featured members of both The Sisters of Mercy, and Crystal Lake, as well as remixes by HEAVYGRINDER and Shirobon.
Kai is not seeking a major record label but instead, follows a strong DIY ethos and produces everything himself to be as self-sufficient as possible. Consequently, Kai records and produces his own releases in his own home recording studio.
Currently, Kai is the only official member of Esprit D’Air, and appoints session musicians for live shows and tours.
They will be embarking on a 7-day UK tour in February 2023 supported by the Help Musicians charity.
“Amazing music!”
– Matthew K. Heafy, Trivium “Gargantuan, taking electronic-sounding elements and just layering it over some of the best guitar riffs I’ve heard in a minute.” – Nels Hylton, BBC Radio 1 “Catchy and atmospheric, with incredible vocals and an otherworldly guitar solo. What a song!” – Richard Shaw, Cradle Of Filth “Leviathan is a wonderful song, feels like a modern day opera with heavy guitars set on fire! Melancholic and haunting, the vocals cut deep. A truly inspired song.” – Michael Falcore, The Birthday Massacre “It’s a really unique blend of djent, industrial, electro, goth, emo, metal and much more. I love the dramatics and cinematic quality it has, with haunting, melancholy colors swooping betwixt the cruel, relentless jaws of the machine.” – Ben Christo, The Sisters of Mercy “Showcases how these guys have the ability to mix up so many flavors. It’s proggy, cinematic, it’s synthy, it’s a bit DragonForce-y at times, a bit metal-y, but all the time, it’s bloody great.” – Alex Baker, Kerrang! Radio “The kind of world-conquering metal epic that has helped power metal become such a vital force again this past decade.” – Rich Hobson, Metal Hammer “The pandemic has proved difficult for many, but Japanese metallers Esprit D’Air have channeled their longing for connection into an intriguing new video that soundtracks the epic and atmospheric new song “Leviathan.” – Chad Childers, Loudwire
