Perotá Chingó is a project that emerged in the summer of 2011 in Cabo Polonio, Uruguay.
Argentines Julia Ortiz and Lola Aguirre recorded a song, “Ríe Chinito” with an intimate and
warm video, at sunset in front of the sea, and it became one of the first viral YouTube
phenomena of Río de la Plata music, garnering more than 30 million views. From there, the
band began an ever-expanding career, first across South America and Argentina, then across
the rest of the continent, and later across Europe.
Thus, Perota Chingó has toured more than 20 countries including Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru,
Colombia, Spain, Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom and, of course, Argentina and
Uruguay. More than 500 concerts in these 10 years of journey, songs and shared stages with
huge and beloved artists such as Djavan, Lenine, Chico César, Fernando Cabrera, Joss Stone,
Anita Tijoux, Chambao, Juan Campodónico and Natiruts, among others.
From its origins as an acoustic song, with folk airs and Latin American roots, Perotá Chingó
has expanded its creative frontiers and has recently explored new sounds and formats in its
songs, incorporating electronic beats, new folkloric rhythms from other latitudes and working
with musical producers like Juan Campodónico (Bajofondo), key in this path.
